St. Anne's Convent, Booterstown
An energy efficient refurbishment of a protected structure and new build, MCO Projects were project managers, architects, interior designers and landscape architects for this complex project at St. Anne's Convent, Co. Dublin, which comprises the adaptation of Protected Structures, providing expanded residential accommodation, an Archive, Education and AV Centre and 2 new link buildings.
The design solution complements, enhances and benefits from the rich physical and historical context of the site including the: protected structure status of the Convent; overall grouping and configuration of buildings; topography, which provides an elevated position; panoramic views to the north and west; and the south facing courtyard formed by the original villa and former orphanage.
The design solution repairs, restores and upgrades the existing buildings and consolidates them with two new connecting link buildings. The new buildings use the same materials and details, and are of modern design to contrast with the existing and provide a clear reading of new and old.
